ThirdReality

A budget Zigbee range - sensors, plugs, buttons and a few oddities like a Zigbee blind and a night light - that sticks close to standard Zigbee behaviour and therefore works well on a local coordinator.

Why we use ThirdReality

  • Standard Zigbee implementation, which means it joins and behaves without per-model workarounds.
  • Low prices make wide sensor coverage affordable.
  • Some useful formats other brands do not make.

Where we do not, and why

  • Build quality is functional rather than nice. Fine in a cupboard, less so on display.
  • Battery life on some sensors is shorter than the Aqara equivalent.
  • The range is narrow, so it cannot cover a whole home on its own.

Do ThirdReality devices need their own hub?

No. They are standard Zigbee and pair with the coordinator on your Home Assistant machine.

Are they as good as Aqara?

The Zigbee implementation is arguably cleaner. The build quality and battery life are not as good, and the range is much narrower.
