Why we use LG

  • LG WebOS televisions are one of the best local TV integrations there is - power, input, volume, app launching, and reliable state.
  • The ThinQ integration covers aircon, washers and fridges with full feature control.
  • Appliance notifications, such as a wash cycle finishing, are genuinely useful.

Where we do not, and why

  • ThinQ is cloud-only, so aircon and appliance control depends on the internet.
  • LG has changed the ThinQ API generation before, which broke existing integrations.
  • Televisions need Wake-on-LAN configured properly or they cannot be switched on again once off.

Does an LG TV work with Home Assistant?

Very well, and locally. You get power, volume, input switching, app launching and reliable state. Switching the TV on from cold needs Wake-on-LAN enabled in its settings, which we configure at commissioning.

Is LG aircon locally controllable?

No. ThinQ is cloud-based, so that part of the system depends on your internet connection. An IR blaster is the only local alternative and it gives no state feedback.
