Igloohome

A Singapore company whose locks generate time-limited PIN codes offline using a cryptographic algorithm - the lock needs no connection to validate a code. Excellent for short-term rentals and access management, weaker as a smart home component.

Why we use Igloohome

  • Offline PIN generation is genuinely clever. A code can be issued to a guest or a cleaner remotely and the lock validates it with no connectivity at all.
  • Well suited to rental units, serviced apartments and anywhere access changes frequently.
  • Local company with local support, which matters when a lock fails.
  • Good physical build and Singapore door fitment.

Where we do not, and why

  • Home Assistant integration is through the Igloohome cloud API and is limited in what it exposes.
  • The lock itself is deliberately offline, which is a security strength and an automation weakness - real-time state is not always available.
  • A bridge is needed for remote operation, adding a device and a dependency.

A good recommendation when access management is the actual requirement - a rental unit, a shared property, a home with rotating helpers. Where the lock needs to participate in automations, a Zigbee or Z-Wave lock is the better fit.

How do offline PIN codes work?

The lock and the app share a cryptographic scheme, so a code generated in the app is mathematically valid for a specific window without the lock ever being told about it. That is why it works with no connection at all.

Does Igloohome integrate with Home Assistant?

Partly, through their cloud API. You can see and do less than with a Zigbee or Z-Wave lock, which is the trade-off for a lock designed to work offline.
