Daikin

The most common premium aircon in Singapore homes and, fortunately, the best supported. The LAN adapters expose a local interface that Home Assistant talks to directly, giving full control and real state feedback rather than blind IR commands.

Why we use Daikin

  • The LAN adapters give genuine local control - set temperature, mode, fan speed and swing, with the unit reporting its actual state back.
  • Two-way state means an automation can know the aircon is running, which one-way IR control can never do.
  • Installed in a very large share of Singapore homes, so the integration is well tested here.
  • Works on ducted, cassette and wall-mounted units alike.

Where we do not, and why

  • The adapter is a paid extra per indoor unit, which adds up on a system-4 or a VRV.
  • Newer firmware and newer adapter generations have moved towards the Daikin cloud, and the local path is not guaranteed on every model.
  • Adapter fitting means opening the indoor unit, which should be done by an aircon technician rather than an electrician.

Where it fits in a CtrlSpace build

If a client has Daikin, this is the route we take. Adapters go into each indoor unit and the aircon joins the system as a proper climate device - schedulable, conditional on occupancy, and able to shut down when a window is open.

Do I need a Daikin adapter for each indoor unit?

Yes, one per indoor unit. On a system-3 or system-4 that is three or four adapters, which is the main cost consideration.

Can you control Daikin aircon without the adapter?

Only with an IR blaster, which sends commands but receives no state back. The system then cannot tell whether the unit is actually running, which limits what the automations can safely do.
