Athom

A manufacturer that sells plugs, relays, dimmers and sensors with ESPHome or Tasmota already flashed. There is no vendor cloud to opt out of because there was never one to begin with.

Why we use Athom

  • Devices arrive running open firmware, so they are local from the first boot with no flashing and no warranty question.
  • They appear in Home Assistant natively over the ESPHome API, which is faster and more reliable than any cloud integration.
  • Energy measurement on the plugs and relays is accurate enough to be useful for per-appliance monitoring.
  • Firmware is fully under your control, so nothing changes unless you change it.

Where we do not, and why

  • Wi-Fi based, so device count still has to be managed against the network.
  • The industrial design is plain - these are engineering products, not showpieces.
  • Availability is direct order rather than local retail, so lead times apply.

What does pre-flashed with ESPHome mean?

The device ships with open firmware already installed, so it connects straight to Home Assistant over a local API. You never create a vendor account, and no data leaves your network.

Can the firmware be updated?

Yes, over the air from Home Assistant, on your schedule. Since you control the firmware, nothing changes without you deciding it should.
