  • Very wide device support, including plenty of brands that never bothered with HomeKit.
  • Works well as a voice layer over Home Assistant.
  • Routines are easy for a household to create without help.

Where we do not, and why

  • Cloud-executed logic, so automations depend on your internet and on Amazon.
  • Skills quality varies enormously, and a skill breaking is outside your control.
  • Privacy handling has repeatedly been the subject of regulatory attention.

Does Alexa work with Home Assistant?

Yes. Your devices and scenes can be exposed to Alexa so voice control works normally, while the automation logic and your data stay on the hub in your home.

Is a fully local voice assistant possible?

Yes. Home Assistant Voice runs speech recognition locally, so nothing leaves the house. It is less conversational than Alexa and it is genuinely private.
