Why we use Aeotec

Z-Wave runs on sub-GHz frequencies, so it does not compete with Wi-Fi and penetrates walls better than Zigbee.
Strict certification means devices behave predictably and interoperate properly.
Genuinely good build, particularly the multisensors and the relay range.

Where we do not, and why

Z-Wave is region-locked. A device bought for the wrong region is unusable, and the correct variant is not always easy to source here.
Materially more expensive than the Zigbee equivalent.
The Singapore catalogue is thin, so it cannot cover a whole home.

We reach for Z-Wave when wall penetration in a large landed home is the constraint, or for a lock where the protocol's security model matters. Adding a Z-Wave radio for one or two devices rarely justifies itself.

Is Z-Wave worth adding to a Singapore home?

Sometimes. In a large landed property where walls are the problem, sub-GHz penetration is a real advantage. In a flat, Zigbee or Thread does the same job with a far larger catalogue and lower cost.

Why does the Z-Wave region matter?

Z-Wave uses different frequencies in different regions and the hardware is fixed at manufacture. A device bought for the wrong region will not join your network at all, so the variant has to be checked before purchase.
